‘The ugly hallmark of the legislature during most of the 2000 decade has been to attack the depressed economy on the backs of those that do not have high powered lobbyists.’ That is not reflecting my opinion, although it does, but that of a major lawsuit filed in the Federal Court by the Sunrise Community, a non-for profit organization that provides care for the profoundly disabled. The state of Florida, rather than acknowledge its’ responsibility under the joint funding conditions with the Federal government of the critically important Medicaid funding program, spend our hard earned tax dollars to fight Sunrise (which was using their scant charitable contributions to defend itself). So, here is the picture: Our elected officials, the Florida Legislature, took the Federal medicaid dollars, but ignored the conditions by which the funds were distributed. Then, when a noble organization representing the disabled objected to Florida’s breach of a contract, the lawmakers took our public money and spent it to fight the disabled. This has really been a dark and ugly mark on our state, thanks to the mean spirited people we elected during most of the 2000 decade.
