Why They Do It

"Because I Could."

Former President Bill Clinton

Former President Bill Clinton was once asked directly, "Why did you get involved with a White House Intern?" His answer was revealing, "Because I could." Privilege has benefits.

The Clintons are not alone. President Donald Trump promised to reveal his taxes, denies profiting off the Presidency, and said he never met Putin. All are lies, probably because he feels he can. He brags about how easy it is to trick the public.

On August 6, 2016, Hillary Clinton was responding to questions from the press about whether she had lied about Jim Comey pointing out that DOJ found confidential information in her private server. Rather than acknowledge that she did lie about it, she said "I may have short circuited and for that I will clarify." In other words, 'sure I lied about because I could.' That one statement has changed the course of American history forever because it, with the relentless wiki leaks on Facebook, did more to elect Donald Trump than anything.

The pendulum will swing back to moderation and civility, but it will not happen within most of our live times today. All "Because I could."
