In the early '70's, the dominant issue in Florida, as well as the rest of the country, was the Equal Rights Amendment ("ERA"). No surprise, women led the fight to have adoption of the ERA ratified in our federal constitution. Two of the most powerful and effective voices for the ERA were legislators from Miami--Elaine Gordon and Gwen Cherry. The article below describes the trail blazers that I have the please of serving with. In addition to strong lawmakers, they and their families were wonderful people. We need strong voices like them so much today.
