Post # 313, Bob McKnight's Florida Commentary
Scott's 11 Point Rescue Plan charges the poor saying they need skin in the game.
Florida's junior senator Rick Scott is a very smart businessman. He is also said to be a crook. While Chief Executive Officer of a for-profit hospital management company, Scott was deposed by the FBI with charges of fraud. The charges totaled $ 1.7 billion, the largest ever paid in the United States. During testimony to defend the charges, Scott took the 5th Amendment 75 times. The company board forced him to resign and Scott paid almost $10 Million in cash to avoid prosecution. He still extracted over $350 Million from the management company and continued his healthcare investments. He is the richest member of the U.S. Senate.
While serving in the U.S. Senate from Florida, Scott has proposed an 11 Point Rescue America Plan, with very few details, which has not been well received. Scott proposes:
Require the poor to pay an undefined amount into the Federal Treasury, saying, "They need to have skin in the game."
Adjust Medicare and Social Security Payments, again without any details.
When Scott's proposal was reviewed by the Majority Leader of his party, the response was that Scott's proposal would not see the light of day in the U.S. Senate. It has been languishing in the bowels of the Senate ever since, never given serious consideration.
Senator Scott is running for re-election with a consistent record of denying women decisions about their bodies. Scott is given credit for adding polluting sugar cane fertilizer into Lake Okeechobee and South Florida's drinking water, as Florida Governor. He also cut funding for public schools while advancing public funding for private religious schools.
Scott has never won any elections by a margin and 2024 looks like it will be close again.
He may not get skin in the game.
