Post # 352, Bob McKnight's Florida Commentary
The majority of voting Americans favor a person who lies regularly and killed bi-partisan immigration reform for his own benefit more than the rule of law in our country.
The people have spoken. It is clear that the main drivers of the Republican presidential vote were:
The Economy--Inflation
Controlled Immigration (especially in the border states)
A Firm, Not Vague Leader
A Return to What Was Felt to be a Better Time and Governance
Not concerned with the rule of law--more willing to trust a convicted felon (34 convictions) and convicted sex abuser.
The same Republicans seemed to hold little interest in:
Electing A Hispanic Woman of Color.
Electing A Candidate with Knowledge of Government
The proven protections of Bi-Partisan Government
Truth
Protecting NATO
Stopping Russia and North Korean advances
So this leaves us with what will be a glib president with an agenda of tariffs on foreign goods, retribution against political opponents, and expelling immigrants. Trump has a record of lying, and ignorance of the government, and there will be little bi-partisanship in the new agenda. He may be a president who will support Russia and other dictators at the expense of freedom and democracy.
The Senate and House will be controlled by the Republicans, but with a razor-close margin, resulting in acrimonious passage of the Republican agenda. Republicans will largely vote in lockstep with Trump, which will probably result in new international tariffs, higher prices, inflation, and a shift from support of NATO to the Russian block countries. It is expected that US support of Ukraine will be abandoned.
It is also expected that there will be legislation against causes dealing with women, abortion, medical care, and the environment in the name of the conservative right and big business. It is expected that Trump will give Israel most of what it needs and wants at the expense of the two-state solution including the Arabs. It is ironic that the heavily Arab state of Michigan voted overwhelmingly for Trump. President Trump will move aggressively to appoint conservative judges who will be easily confirmed by the Senate.
This is what happened in the 2024 election, why, and what to expect in 2025. Unlike President Trump in 2020, most Americans pledge to support our re-elected president and our country.
Happy New Year.
