    Trump 2020

Post # 62, Bob McKnight's Subscription Commentary ...he is clever and has an amazing sense of people's inherent evil thoughts... Critics of President Donald Trump say his thinking is shallow with limited intellectual curiosity. His acknowledged failure to read, especially issue reports completed by his staff, does not help his reputation as being overly impetuous. Somehow he may be one of only a few that feel his constant disconnected tweets are in keeping for the Presiden

Post #29, Bob McKnight's Subscription Commentary "Do the Democrats relish a fight more than a victory?" Political stupidity often has no discerning boundaries. On the Republican side, virtually every conservative I know has said that if President Donald Trump would just stop using social media to spout off and lie, his record would begin getting some respect. That may be a little farther than I would go, but it sure makes sense when you look at the stock market or a few of

    Why It is so Hard.

Post #3, Bob McKnight's Political Commentary "The Republicans fear Trump and the Gingrich Contract with America in not working across the aisle." Many Democrats and Independents cannot understand why it so hard for Republican office holders to stand up to Donald Trump's embarrassing actions. After Trump started out describing some Mexicans as rapists, then denigrating Senator John McCain's service as a POW, bragging about grabbing women's private parts, and even ridiculing a

    A Plan for the Democrats

"Let's Think First This Time. Then, Get to Work." How many times have you heard partisan politicos being criticized, saying, "Fine, what is your plan?" The Democrats and some traditional Republicans have criticized President Donald Trump for his lack of legislative accomplishment, for what seems like decades. Critics say he did not start with a "plan." Those very same critics have offered very few solutions of their own. Even on Obama Care, the opponents know Trump has f

    Bad Optics

For the second time, President Donald Trump had Republican members of Congress bused to the White House for a photo opportunity with him in the Rose Garden. This time it was a celebration of the House passing a bill designed to replace Obama Care with Trump Care. It was a surprise victory after several false starts by Speaker Paul Ryan (R., Wi.), although passing by only 4 votes among the 435 members of the House. But, the passage was a major achievement for the President

    Bogus Rabbit Trails

In a recent post, I proposed that the Democrats look past the personal attacks made of them by then Candidate Trump. Critics say everyone attacks one another, personally and otherwise. But for the record, I am suggesting the Democrats lead by example for the Republicans and move on. I also offered to look past the obstruction by the Republicans of President Obama's Affordable Care Act ("ACA") agenda for 8 years. Again critics say both sides obstruct, but I remember Preside

    The Honorable Alternative

After I was elected to the Florida Senate in 1978, the presiding officer in that body was one of it's most respected members, Senator Phil Lewis (D., West Palm Beach). Deep in his Catholic faith, the Senator was known for his kindness and consideration of the needs of members on both sides of the aisle. I often remind readers of his extraordinary request that funding for a school in his name in his Palm Beach County District, be removed since it had not gone through the pai

    A Bold Stroke for Unity

In an earlier post to this Commentary, I suggested President Elect Donald Trump consider appointing extraordinary Democrats to key positions in his Administration. It not only would tap talent largely overlooked by the GOP, but it would send a strong signal that he is going to be President for all the people, regardless of Party affiliation. It appears that he might do that, at least in part. Now, here is a suggestion along the same lines, but perhaps more difficult to fath

    What's Left.

The country's political landscape is finally at rest. The Trump supporters could not be more pleased, the Clinton supporters not so much. Apparently we again have a national election where the winner of the electoral college is the not the winner of the popular vote. Somehow that does not seem right. The pollsters are embarrassed for the second major election in a row. The 'elite' media are going to be skewered by the new Administration during 2017, to compound their dec
